In both direct speech and indirect speech in Myanmar, the reported clause comes after theSubject of the reporting clause. Each of them has its Theme. The Theme of the reported clause links in with the topic of the text, while the Theme of the reporting clause primarily develops the information by identifying the source (Thompson 2004/2008: 161). Both Themes, therefore, serve different functions in the development of the text, and they are identified separately, as illustrated in Example (17). 3 https: //www.burmalibrary.org/sites/burmalibrary.org/files/obl/mal_28.6.19.pdf Construction of the THEME System of Myanmar (17) ဉီး က က က က က အ အ e- Govern ment က အ က က က shaye:u pyinnyaryaye:w pyehtaunsu letshika nainngand e- arrpa saunywet- pyawky © 2022 Global Journals Volume XXII Issue IX Version I 61 ( ) Global Journal of Human Social Science - Year 2022 G e:zwar ingyeehtarna wingyee-ga rlatwin orasoeya- anayphyint Govern ment- sanit- go ye: lyetshi- bar=gyaun n arr-the. firstly Ministry.of.Edu cation Union.Min ister- SBJMARK at.prese nt governmen t- SBJMARK e- Govern ment- system - OBJMA RK enco urage carry.out- PROG- POLMARK= COMP say- DECL.SE NTSUF conjunc tive topical Rheme-1 textual experiential Theme-1 topical Theme- 2 Rheme-2 3 „Firstly, the Minister of Education said that the government is encouraging e-Government system at present.‟ ( Myanma Alinn Daily Newspaper 2019: 8) (16) ' က ' က က ‘dar tanphoe-theikkyee=det palebya’=hu keno-ga so-the. this.
